1987 | Earliest Ganesha Chathurthi Celebrations Conducted by The Avatar
28 August 1987 – The photographs in this album are taken during the first grand Ganesh Chaturti The Avatār celebrated as a small public function! It was inside the Arunācaleśvara temple in Tiruvannamalai, His birthplace, on the fifth circumambulation path inside the temple. It is the occasion when He had done alankār (decoration) to the Ganesha with sandalpaste as can be seen. He alongwith His friends had gathered a group of people and made it like a public function, calling even the official temple instrumental troupe to play for the occasion! It stands as the first public function organised by Him till date. The Ganesha is located under a sacred Banyan tree, on whose branches The Avatār would be playing when He came away from school during school hours. Only the temple watchman knew that He could be found atop this tree.
The young Avatār is seen next to a Ganesha deity inside the Arunācaleśvara temple in Tiruvannamalai, His birthplace, on the fifth circumambulation path inside the temple.
